Welcome to The HD Foundation School
Established in loving memory of Shri Hari Dutt Joshi , a visionary educator whose legacy continues to inspire quality education in Haldwani. Our school carries forward a vision of excellence, innovation, and unwavering dedication to nurturing young minds in the Kumaon region.
Pandit Hari Dutt Joshi, 1872-1957
"The vision and enterprising spirit behind!"
The HD Foundation School is named after Pandit Hari Dutt Joshi. Pandit Joshi was born in 1872. He was a pioneer in the trade of wood-cutting in the Kumaon region. Pandit Joshi is credited with the establishment of the first sawmill in this region. In 1910, Pandit Joshi established two firms, Haridutt and Brothers, and Haldwani Saw Mill. Later, these enterprises assumed greater significance in the wood trade and were amalgamated into a new firm presently known as Haldwani Furniture Mart.
Pandit Joshi had an eye for quality in whatever enterprise he undertook — be it business or education. He was a noted philanthropist and contributed meaningfully to society and the community. He had a vision to provide quality education to children.
Inspired by his vision, one of his protégés set up Haridutt Nityanand Intermediate College (HNIC) in Haldwani. It was due to Pandit Joshi’s magnanimity that many children, including those from weaker economic and social sections of society, received quality education. In fact, many of them went on to become able administrators, doctors, engineers, educationists, and even ministers.
Carrying forward the legacy, his grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Mr. Suresh Chandra Joshi and Mrs. Manju Joshi , benevolently cheered and contributed to the establishment of The HD Foundation School in Haldwani . The vision of quality education harboured by Pandit Hari Dutt Joshi is now being realized in the form of The HD Foundation School.
